Kwabena Frimpong urges Mahama to fulfil pledge on automatic posting for health graduates

Deputy Protocol Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Kwabena Frimpong, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to honour his campaign promise to ensure the automatic posting of trained health professionals across Ghana.

Mr. Frimpong made the appeal while delivering the keynote address at the 2025 FG-MELSA Handing Over Retreat, held at the Ministry of Health Conference Room. The event brought together outgoing and incoming leaders of the Federation of Ghana Medical Laboratory Science Students’ Associations (FG-MELSA) under the theme, “Transitioning with Purpose: Building on Success, Empowering New Leadership for Excellence & Ensuring Continuity & Progress.”

Speaking on the importance of continuity and transformative leadership, Mr. Frimpong stressed that impactful leadership goes beyond occupying a position and must be rooted in “vision, discipline, empathy, and resilience.” He encouraged the next generation of student leaders to remain focused and purposeful as they take up the mantle of leadership.

Turning his focus to national policy, the NPP official appealed directly to President Mahama to act swiftly on his promise to post qualified nurses, midwives, and allied health professionals.

“This commitment is not merely a political obligation but a necessary step toward restoring trust, hope, and opportunity within the health sector,” Mr. Frimpong stated.

He expressed deep concern over the growing backlog of unemployed trained health professionals who, despite their readiness to serve, remain on the sidelines due to government inaction.

Drawing a contrast, he praised former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his administration’s decision to clear a backlog of health workers trained between 2012 and 2016 under Mahama’s earlier tenure who had gone years without posting. Mr. Frimpong challenged President Mahama to emulate this record and take immediate action to absorb the current pool of job-ready professionals into the public health system.

“By prioritizing the posting of these skilled graduates, he will not only reduce the growing rate of unemployment but also unlock the vast potential of professionals eager to contribute meaningfully to national development,” he added.

Mr. Frimpong closed his address by thanking FG-MELSA for the opportunity to engage with future leaders in the health sector and extended warm wishes to the newly inducted executives.

“God bless FG-MELSA. God bless our youth. And God bless Ghana,” he declared.

The retreat ended on a hopeful note, as participants reaffirmed their commitment to promoting responsible student leadership and advocating for sustainable reforms within Ghana’s health sector.
