On Friday, July 4, 2025, the tranquil forecourt of North Hills International School in North Legon, Accra, came alive with celebration as the institution hosted its annual Speech and Prize-Giving Day.

Under the theme “Discipline: The Bridge Between Dreams and Reality,” the event brought together proud parents, accomplished students, dedicated staff, and distinguished guests to honour academic achievement and the values that mould future leaders.

The ceremony commenced with prayers led by students Sadiq Ibrahim Kambala and Nicole Yirenkyiwa Kwapong Owusu, followed by a stirring rendition of the school anthem.

A vibrant opening performance by Freddy Dadzie and Elyown Commey, coupled with Maya Apkalu’s formal introduction of the Chairman, set the tone for a day of inspiration. Throughout the event, the school choir, ballet dancers, and band showcased the institution’s commitment to nurturing creativity, while cultural dances and poetry recitals added depth to the proceedings.

In her welcome address, Headmistress Mrs Emma Coleman Opoku reaffirmed the school’s dedication to academic excellence, citing remarkable achievements in the previous year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Notably, one student earned ten ones, securing admission to Wesley Girls’ High School, while others with eight and six ones gained entry to Achimota International School and St Roses Senior High School, respectively.

Guest speaker Rosemond Obeng delivered a powerful keynote address, likening discipline to salt in soup — an essential ingredient for success. Drawing parallels to the life of Dr Ben Carson, she emphasised the collective responsibility of parents, educators, and society in instilling discipline and purpose in young minds.

The ceremony’s highlight came with the recognition of exceptional students, including Vielung Kwadwo Bagbin, son of Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin. The young scholar claimed seven prestigious awards, including Overall Outstanding Student and top honours in English, Science, Mathematics, French, and Geography.

Equally noteworthy was Mr Wazi Amoah’s recognition as Best Teacher of the Year, for which he received a generous gift from Dr Adu Boateng of End Point Homeopathic Clinic.

Staff members, both teaching and non-teaching, were also honoured with awards for their tireless efforts and contributions to the school’s growth.

As the event drew to a close with a musical interlude and closing prayer by Adwoa Hemaa Adu Poku, North Hills International School reaffirmed its commitment to developing globally minded individuals.

The occasion served not merely as a celebration of past achievements but as a testament to the institution’s unwavering belief in its students’ limitless potential—a belief grounded in discipline, excellence, and holistic education.
