Nana Dr. Kwasi Sasu IV, the newly outdoored Awosohene of the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Council, has issued a passionate call for traditional authorities to prioritize youth empowerment and foster unity as the foundation for rapid development in Akyem Oda.
Speaking during his official outdooring ceremony, Nana Sasu IV, who now holds the critical role of overseeing the weapons and vision of Akyem Kotoku, emphasized the need to actively involve young people in shaping the future of the town.
“The youth have valuable insights and suggestions that can contribute to the development of our town. We should not dismiss their ideas and opinions just because they are young,” he stated emphatically.
He called on traditional leaders to create a safe and supportive space for young people to voice their views, free from intimidation or marginalization.
“We also need to create a conducive environment for the youth to express themselves without fear of being intimidated. Our position and authority should not be used to silence them or make them feel inferior. We should encourage them to speak up and share their thoughts and ideas.”
In addition to championing youth inclusion, the Awosohene underscored the importance of unity and reconciliation among traditional authorities and community members, warning that unresolved divisions continue to impede the town’s growth.
“As leaders, we need to set aside our personal differences and work towards a common goal of making Akyem Oda a better place for all. This can only be achieved if we come together and have open and honest discussions, leaving behind any negativity or bad blood,” he counselled.
Reflecting on the consequences of longstanding disunity, Nana Sasu IV expressed concern that the lack of cohesion has discouraged investment and limited opportunities for the town’s youth.
“We are far behind due to unity and diversity for so many years and I will plead we have to let things go away so that investors and developers can come to this town for their business and it will let our youth get something to do for a living,” he noted, linking harmony directly to economic opportunity.
Looking ahead, he reminded all gathered of the urgent need to prepare the youth for leadership and active participation in community development.
“The youth are the future leaders of our town. We need to support and empower them to become responsible and active members of our community. By listening to them and involving them in decision-making processes, we are also building a stronger and more united town for the future.”
Nana Sasu IV concluded with a firm appeal to traditional leaders across Akyem Oda to embrace his message, emphasizing that the path to prosperity lies in empowering the youth and forging lasting unity.
