Dr Edmond Oppong-Peprah has declared his intention to contest the flagbearer position of NPP Dr Edmond Oppong-Peprah has declared his intention to contest the flagbearer position of NPP

Dr Edmond Oppong-Peprah, a respected academic and lecturer at Kumasi Technical University (KsTU), has officially declared his intention to contest for the flagbearer position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the party’s next internal elections.

Speaking on his decision, Dr Oppong-Peprah, who teaches Entrepreneurship, Finance, and business-related courses, emphasised the urgent need to restore public trust in political leadership and to modernise Ghana’s development path through bold, visionary reforms.

Vision for a modern Ghana

Outlining his vision, Dr Oppong-Peprah stressed that he brings unmatched credibility and trustworthiness to the race—qualities he believes are absent among the current contenders.

Drawing on his deep roots in academia, he pledged to help rebuild the broken trust between the academic community and the NPP which, he noted, was evident in the 2024 general elections where the party lost significant ground in polling stations located on university campuses.

“My vision is couched in five thematic areas,” he explained.

“The first is the modernization of Ghana’s agricultural sector to make it more attractive to the youth and capable of producing sufficient food for both domestic consumption and export.”

He added; “My goal is to build a modern Ghana through radical change—driven by innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development. I bring an unparalleled vision toward Ghana’s transformation.”

A Profile of Proven Leadership and Innovation

Dr Oppong-Peprah holds a PhD in Engineering Management with a specialization in Infrastructure Financing from the University of Johannesburg in South Africa.

He also has a Master’s degree in Development Planning and Management with a focus on Financial Management.

At Kumasi Technical University, he has served in several strategic leadership roles.

He coordinated the “Entrepreneurship Village” project—a university-led initiative that acquired 200 acres of land at Piase near Ejisu to create an industrial enclave modelled after Silicon Valley in the United States.

He was also instrumental in the university’s efforts to raise $800 million to fund this initiative.

Additionally, he played a vital role as a member of the university’s Kuntenase Campus Relocation Team which was responsible for sourcing $500 million to establish a new campus on a 300-acre site near Kumasi.

His technological innovation credentials are equally impressive.

His proposal for a digital mobile app to locate hostels around KsTU won a World Bank/DANIDA/DFID-funded project under the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation (MESTI) through the Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COTVET).

Dr Oppong-Peprah is also credited with co-authoring a proposal to the National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE) which contributed to the transformation of Ghana’s polytechnics into technical universities.

He has served as Coordinator and later Head of the Centre for Entrepreneurship Research in Africa at Kumasi Polytechnic (now KsTU), a member of the university’s Academic Board, and also a University Council Member.

Notably, he was twice elected Chairman of the Polytechnic Teachers Association of Ghana (POTAG), earning the trust of his colleagues across the country.
