NPP MP for Akwatia Ernest Yaw Kumi was reported dead on Monday, July 7, 2025 NPP MP for Akwatia Ernest Yaw Kumi was reported dead on Monday, July 7, 2025

The death of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Akwatia, Ernest Yaw Kumi, has been confirmed by some members of the party following reports of his demise on Monday, July 7, 2025.

The MP’s demise has come as a surprise to many because there have not been any reports of him being ill or involved in any form of accident.

In fact, just days before his demise, the MP had some media engagements.

A viral video has shown the MP in an interview on Adom TV just this past Friday, July 7,  2025.

In the said video, the MP is heard lambasting the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the re‑run of the parliamentary election for some polling stations in the Ablekuma South Constituency in the Greater Accra Region.

Citing the trial he went through over his legitimacy to represent the people of Akwatia, Ernest Kumi said that the NPP can take all the seats in Parliament if they want to.

“What is wrong? Why are we conceding to this? Must the NDC necessarily win all the seats in Parliament?”

“If the NPP is going to listen to me—if it were up to me—just as we did in 1992, we should leave all the seats for them; all of us should leave Parliament for them to take every seat,” he said.

He added, “Look at what they are doing to the rest of us. Look at the fight I have fought to get here. Look at what they are putting these women through. A boycott could even have been better.”
