NPP should never consider early election concession again — Dr Adomako-Kissi

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Anyaa Sowutuom, Dr Dickson Adomako-Kissi, has advised the party never to consider conceding early in future elections.

A day after the 2024 elections, former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia who was the party’s flagbearer, accepted defeat and congratulated then President-elect John Dramani Mahama.

The gesture, which received widespread commendation from both local and international communities, was aimed at ensuring calm and peace in the highly charged electoral atmosphere.

However, speaking on Accra-based Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Tuesday, July 8, Dr Adomako-Kissi argued that the early concession led to chaos in some areas, emboldening NDC supporters and causing the NPP to lose several parliamentary seats unfairly.

“I think the NPP in the future will never, and should never, accept a loss so early again. There are many sides to this argument. I felt the party stalwarts could have been the ones to signal Ghanaians that we had lost, and that should have been enough.

“But we should have waited for all our parliamentary results to be declared fully. Unfortunately, the early concession emboldened the NDC grassroots to behave in a certain manner in many places, and it cost us more seats,” he said.

He stressed, “I say this with the greatest of respect to everybody, but I really think that it will guide us in our decisions in the future. To the extent that should we lose any election, I think we’ll be very cautious in declaring that we’ve lost the election.”
