Kennedy Nyarko Osei is the Akim Swedru Member of Parliament
The Member of Parliament for Akim Swedru, Kennedy Nyarko Osei, has eulogised his former colleague, the late Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Ernest Kumi, following his passing.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, he recounted memorable moments with the late MP, particularly one in which Ernest Kumi shared his decision not to seek re-election after serving his current term in Parliament.
According to him, he questioned the late lawmaker’s decision in an effort to understand his perspective, especially given that many lawmakers aspire to remain in office for more than a single term.
Nyarko Osei stated that, in Kumi’s explanation, he cited the challenges he had faced, including the legal battle surrounding his seat and other difficulties, as the reasons behind his decision not to seek re-election.
“Ernest, I remember the day I gave you and Hon Forson a lift in my car from Office to the MP’s car park just to pick up your vehicles. You openly mentioned that you wouldn’t like to seek re-election at the end of this term and I questioned why? You indicated what you’ve been through, the hustle and the situation you find yourself in as a member of parliament,” he wrote.
Nyarko Osei added that he made attempts to talk the late MP through to back down on his decision, but unfortunately met his untimely demise.
Paying his tribute, he added that the world, as it is, does not play fair and lacks justice and that individuals often endure its trials, only for their efforts to end in vain.
“I could sense some regrets and frustrations but I tried talking you through. Yes, indeed there is no fairness in this world. We labor in Vain. Vanity, all is Vanity. ERNEST, MAY YOUR GENTLE SOUL REST IN PERFECT PEACE. YAW, Nante yie,” he added.
News of Ernest Kumi’s passing went rife on July 7, 2025, sending shockwaves across the country.
He is reported to have passed away after a short illness.
Tributes have since been pouring in from Ghanaians and members of the political fraternity, mourning his loss.
