The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Atebubu-Amantin, Hon. Thomas Masud Musah Ayaaba, has underscored the importance of improved revenue mobilisation as a key pillar for local development.
Delivering his sessional address during the first ordinary meeting of the municipal assembly for the year in Atebubu, the MCE called for collective efforts to generate the resources needed to support the municipality’s development agenda.
Hon. Ayaaba revealed that the assembly has held several meetings with its revenue collectors, which will culminate in a tailored training programme aimed at enhancing their efficiency and effectiveness. He also announced plans to embark on a public sensitisation campaign to encourage residents to honour their financial obligations to the assembly.
His address covered a wide range of critical sectors including security, finance, infrastructure, education, agriculture, social services, and national economic programmes such as the 24-hour economy and the Accelerated Export Programme.
Touching on security, Hon. Ayaaba noted that collaborative efforts between the municipal assembly and the central government have led to a significant reduction in armed robbery incidents. However, he acknowledged that petty theft continues to pose a challenge within some communities.
“Hon. Presiding Member, as of May 31, 2025, the assembly’s total revenue from all sources stood at GHC3,359,113.84, representing 21.26% of our annual target of GHC15,797,711.25,” he stated, expressing optimism that the assembly would meet its 100 percent revenue target by the end of the year.
On development priorities, the MCE disclosed that education remains the municipality’s largest investment area, accounting for approximately 37% of total expenditure. The remaining funds have been distributed across other key sectors including governance and security, health, water and sanitation, and economic development.
He further indicated that a recent Municipal Education Oversight Committee meeting highlighted key challenges in the education sector, including inadequate classroom furniture and poor infrastructure maintenance. He assured that adequate provisions would be made from the District Assembly Common Fund in the 2025 fiscal year to address these concerns.
Hon. Ayaaba encouraged local entrepreneurs to seize opportunities under the government’s 24-hour economy initiative and Accelerated Export Programme. These programmes, he explained, are designed to enhance productivity, foster inclusive growth, and create jobs, particularly for the youth.
He also took members of the assembly through the government’s flagship agricultural initiative, the “Feed Ghana” programme, urging them to mobilise their constituents—especially the youth—to embrace the initiative as a pathway to wealth creation.
