Aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has criticised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government over what he described as deception on the 24-hour economy.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) communicator claimed the NDC and its then-presidential candidate promised immediate round-the-clock operations at ministries and massive job creation.
Speaking on Accra-based Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Wednesday, July 9, Miracles Aboagye argued that the policy document behind the programme launched on July 2 tells a different story.
“Remember, they spoke about 1-3-3. They even went ahead to ridiculously indicate that ministries would operate 1-3-3. They asked why, when you go to the ministries, they are asleep at 6pm, and said they should be operating. They claimed that for every role, they would bring a third person.
“They went further to say banks would be operating at midnight and even did adverts showing people issuing cheques at midnight. We kept saying it is not true, that it doesn’t work that way,” he said.
Miracles added, “Now, what the NDC is doing with the document they’ve launched is implementing a set of economic policies, hoping these translate into a 24-hour economy. That is not the promise they gave to the people.”
Meanwhile, a member of the ruling NDC communication team, Lawyer Hamza Suhuyini, has urged Ghanaians to be patient with the government as it rolls out its flagship 24-hour economy policy.
According to him, the real impact of the policy, which is expected to create jobs and boost productivity, will begin to manifest within 18 months of the administration.
