GPHA boss inspects major road and safety upgrades at Tema Port

The Director-General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), Brigadier General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono, has embarked on a working tour to inspect key infrastructure projects at the Tema Port, reaffirming the Authority’s commitment to operational efficiency, safety, and trade facilitation.

The inspection focused on critical projects, including the rehabilitation of the main access road to the harbour, the construction of a strategic link road between Terminal 3 and Terminal 2, and the building of new breakwaters to protect port assets and vessels.

The deteriorated main road, which has long posed challenges to haulage drivers and other port users, is currently undergoing reconstruction. Once completed, the upgrade is expected to ease vehicular movement, reduce turnaround times for trucks, and improve overall port logistics.

Another key highlight of the tour was the under-construction link road between Meridian Port Services (MPS) Terminal 3 and Terminal 2. The new corridor, when completed, will significantly cut down container transfer time between the terminals, improving coordination and efficiency in cargo handling.

Brigadier General Tanye-Kulono also visited the site of ongoing breakwater construction, an essential maritime infrastructure intended to shield port operations and vessels from turbulent sea conditions.

Expressing satisfaction with the progress, he commended the contractors for their professionalism and urged them to maintain momentum to meet project deadlines.

“These projects are critical to the strategic vision of GPHA to maintain Tema Port’s competitiveness and operational efficiency. I am pleased with what I have seen and encourage all contractors to stay focused,” the Director-General stated.

He was accompanied by Ing. Kobla Ofori, General Manager for Engineering, and Dr. Kingsley Antwi-Boasiako, General Manager for Marketing and Corporate Affairs.

The infrastructure works form part of GPHA’s broader modernisation agenda to position Tema Port as a leading maritime gateway in the West African sub-region, capable of meeting the growing demands of international trade.
