The Kasoa-Ofaakor Circuit Court has sentenced robbery suspect Mohammed Bello to 25 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for his involvement in a violent highway robbery along the Dabanyin stretch of the Kasoa-Winneba Road.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, July 6, when Bello and four unidentified accomplices opened fire on a Toyota Hiace minibus, injuring four passengers.

The gang proceeded to rob passengers of cash, mobile phones, and other personal belongings before fleeing the scene.

Bello was apprehended shortly afterwards by officers from the Gomoa East District Police Command as he attempted to escape.

He was later transferred to the Central East Regional Police Command, where he was charged, prosecuted, and convicted.

His accomplices remain at large, and a police statement confirms that efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects.

“We assure the public of our continued commitment to safety and law enforcement,” the police stated.

According to investigators, the robbery took place around 12:30 a.m. near Gomoa Buduatta Junction.

When arrested, Bello was found in possession of GH₵3,740 in cash, two Samsung phones, a Tecno Spark 20, an Itel keypad phone, a power bank, a lady’s purse, five sticks of cigarettes, a wristwatch, a headset, a phone charger, and a pair of sandals later identified by one of the victims.

The injured passengers received medical treatment and have commended the police for their swift response. Authorities are encouraging any additional victims to report to the Central East Regional Police Command to assist ongoing investigations.
