A delegation from the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference has paid a courtesy call on the Minister for the Interior, Mr. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, to discuss collaborative efforts aimed at promoting peace and stability in the region.

Speaking during the meeting on Wednesday in Accra, the minister commended the Catholic Church for its continued role in national development.

He encouraged them to reach out to other faith-based organizations to champion the cause of peace, emphasizing the importance of coexistence in maintaining the country’s peace.

“We must all learn to coexist, and the work of your secretariat will help protect the peace that Ghana currently enjoys,” the Minister said.

Mr. Muntaka assured the delegation of the Ministry’s continued partnership and support with Caritas Ghana and other faith-based organisations in advancing peace and security efforts across the country.

The delegation, led by Rev. Fr. Michael Quaicoo, Director of Governance, Justice and Peace at the National Catholic Secretariat, outlined key initiatives spearheaded by Caritas Ghana, a charity organization of the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference, including the flagship Sahel Peace Initiative, aimed at promoting peace, stability, and coexistence in the region.

Rev. Fr. Quaicoo explained that the Sahel Peace Initiative is an essential project to tackle the root causes of conflict and foster peaceful coexistence among communities in the Sahel region.

He expressed the organization’s commitment to working with the Ministry of the Interior to ensure the success of the initiative

He emphasised that the Catholic Church remains committed to promoting constructive dialogue, mutual understanding, and sustainable peace through partnerships with government institutions, civil society, and international stakeholders.
