Trade Minister inaugurates GIPC Board

The Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Agyare, has sworn-in the new Board of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC).

The 10-member Board is chaired by former Local Government Minister, Akwasi Oppong Fosu, and is tasked with driving investment promotion efforts in Ghana.

Other members of the Board include Deputy Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry Sampson Ahi, Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem, as well as CEO of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre Simon Madjie.

The rest are CEO of the Ghana Association of Banks John Awuah, Dr. Zakari Mumuni, Dr. Audrey Smock Amoah, Dr. Reuben Owusu Gyamfi, Major Christine Naa Adoley Oko (Rtd), and President of Greater Accra Markets Association Mercy Afrowa Needjan.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony, Mrs.  Ofosu-Agyare expressed her confidence in the Board’s ability to deliver on its mandate.

“We are looking at your law to make it more robust and effective and to help you achieve your mandate as imposed on you by the president,” she said.

She assured that the Board of the ministry’s is commitment to review the GIPC Act (Act 865) to make it more robust and effective.

With optimism, she added that “I am hoping that this tenure will be the best ever.”

The Minister advised the Board to focus on its primary mandate of attracting foreign direct investment to Ghana. “I am confident that you know the mandate of the Board for which you have been called to serve,” she said.

The newly sworn-in Board is expected to play a crucial role in promoting Ghana as an attractive investment destination and identifying opportunities for growth and development.
