Over 100 wooden structures and metal containers within the Nhyiaeso constituency in Kumasi have been razed to the ground by fire.

Since the catastrophe occurred at approximately 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, have been counting their losses.

When OTEC News Bismark Appiah Kubi Papilo visited the scene on Thursday morning, Abraham Boadi also known as Opooman, the Assembly Member for the area, who was at the scene said but for the intervention of personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service who responded swiftly to a distress call they received, the inferno would have extended to other parts because the structures were mostly made of wood.

No casualties had been reported in the interim, and the area had been closed until the investigations were finished.

He said that more than 200 people had lost possessions due to the fire outbreak and urged authorities to assist the impacted victims.

Opooman indicated that some squatters who illegally resided in the area had gone out to watch the football game between Real Madrid and PSG when the fire started.

Some however could not take their personal belongings including some amount of money they had kept in their makeshift structures which caught fire.

The main victims included operators residing in the area and a small portion of a fitting shop close to Saint Agnes school at Atinga Junction.

Some of the affected residents alleged that one of the victims identified as Afia Sarfowaa’s ex-boyfriend set the fire in his ex-girlfriend’s room due to their recent separation.
