The Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Ekow Vincent Assafuah, is confident the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie, will win the upcoming Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun.
He revealed that the NPP secured about 14 out of the 19 polling stations in both the 2020 and 2024 general elections, giving the party a significant advantage in the rerun scheduled for Friday, July 11.
Speaking to journalists in Parliament on Thursday, July 10, Mr Assafuah stressed the need to focus on the candidate’s efforts as she continues to campaign on the ground.
“The best approach to this election is through the candidate herself. I have spoken to her about twice today, and I get the impression that she’s on the ground. We know the circumstances that have brought us here, but I’m confident the people of Ablekuma North will reward Akua Afriyie once more,” he said.
He added, “If you check 2020, we won about 14 out of the 19 polling stations. In 2024, it was the same. Clearly, we have the majority.”
“The party boycotted the elections before the court order, so it is proper that they officially communicate their next steps, especially to the people of Ablekuma North. But clearly, you can see that even before an official announcement, party stalwarts are already showing support to the candidate,” he added.
This comes after Nana Akua Afriyie expressed confidence in her chances of winning, accusing the Electoral Commission (EC) of shifting from its earlier position of three outstanding polling stations to now 19.
“I want to put on record that darkness can never cover light. I am the light. I am the truth and the light. I walk with the gracious God. You can never cheat me, and the Lord is going to speak tomorrow as I contest,” she told the media on Thursday, July 10.
