Deputy Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Asokwa, Patricia Appiagyei, is optimistic that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie, will emerge victorious in the Ablekuma North rerun.

She believes most of the 19 polling stations where the elections are scheduled on Friday, July 11, are NPP strongholds, giving the party a clear advantage.

Speaking to journalists in Parliament on Thursday, July 10, Madam Appiagyei said although the party’s leadership has boycotted the rerun, it is important to rally behind the candidate to retain the seat.

“To be aware that the 19 polling stations that have been put out for the rerun, most of them are NPP strongholds. So it tells you we have an edge over the NDC.

“Even though the party’s stance is a boycott on principle, the candidate believes she has an edge, and we also need to go and support her to ensure this election is successful,” she said.

This comes after Nana Akua Afriyie expressed confidence about winning the rerun.

She accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of changing its earlier position of three outstanding polling stations to now 19.

“I want to put on record that darkness can never cover light. I am the light. I am the truth and the light. I walk with the gracious God. You can never cheat me, and the Lord is going to speak tomorrow as I contest,” she told the media on Thursday, July 10.

She added, “I want everybody in Ablekuma North to hear me and hear my voice. I am contesting this election, and I am coming out victorious because I won that election, and God will ensure that justice prevails.”
