Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an aide to former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has urged voters in Ablekuma North to vote against the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming rerun.
He warned that the NDC, which currently holds a majority in Parliament, could create a “parliamentary dictatorship” if they secure the remaining seat.
In a social media post on Thursday, July 10, Mr Aboagye alleged that the ruling party would use an absolute majority to tamper with the constitution and act with impunity.
“Today, they are asking for a rerun hoping you don’t show up to vote so they can steal the seat, have an absolute majority to tamper with our country’s constitution, and do with us as they please. Ghana is counting on you to halt this attempt to create a parliamentary dictatorship,” he wrote.
He further urged voters to support Akua Afriyie, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, in order to “stand up for the constitution of Ghana.”
“Show up for Akua Afriyie to win this election. Parliamentary dictatorship is no flex; it’s a threat,” he added.
Mr Aboagye also accused the NDC of causing the constituency’s seven-month lack of representation by allegedly destroying ballot papers and pink sheets.
“Dear Ablekuma North, this is why you have been burdened with the stress of voting again tomorrow. As you can see in this video, NDC members in your constituency are openly and brazenly destroying the pink sheets after noticing they had lost the election to Akua Afriyie,” he claimed.
