Tamale chief banishes two goat thieves

Two men arrested in Tamale for stealing goats have been banished from the community by the Chief of Chogu following their apprehension and confession to the crime.

Nafiwu Bakar, a national service person with the Bole Forestry Commission, and his accomplice, Rashid Yussif, are both natives of Damongo in the Savannah Region.

They were arrested last Friday by a local vigilante task force while attempting to steal goats in the Chogu area.

According to community sources, the two were caught red-handed and handed over to traditional authorities instead of the police.

The elders, led by the Chief of Chogu, deliberated on the matter and declared that the two should be banished from the town with immediate effect.

The suspects reportedly claimed they were acting on the instructions of others who had promised to pay them for the stolen goats.

However, their explanation did little to sway the chiefs, who cited their growing notoriety and the need to deter others from engaging in similar criminal acts.

In issuing the banishment, the Chief of Chogu emphasised the importance of maintaining peace and safety in the community, warning that such behaviour would not be tolerated under his leadership.
