The Minister for the Interior, Mr. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has urged the newly inaugurated Governing Board of the Ghana Refugee Board (GRB) to place the welfare and dignity of refugees at the core of their mandate.

He called on the board to work tirelessly to ensure that refugees receive the protection and support they need.

At the swearing-in ceremony on Thursday in Accra, he highlighted the critical role the Board plays in managing refugee affairs in Ghana, noting that the GRB oversees the well-being of over 20,000 registered refugees from approximately 40 countries, with a significant number coming from Burkina Faso.

“Work as a united team, guided by the principles of transparency, accountability, professionalism, and patriotism”, the minister stated.

The Minister assured the Board of the Ministry’s and Government’s commitment to facilitating their work and wished them well in their assignment.

He expressed confidence that the new Board would bring renewed energy and strategic direction to refugee management in Ghana.

The Chairman of the Board, Mr. Joseph Azumah, expressed gratitude to the President for the appointment and pledged the Board’s commitment to working diligently to promote the welfare of refugees in Ghana.

“We are committed to working diligently with all stakeholders to promote the welfare of refugees and ensure effective governance of refugee affairs in Ghana,” he stated.

The newly inaugurated Board is expected to drive forward initiatives aimed at protecting and empowering refugees while fostering strong partnerships with national and international agencies.
