Former Vice President and 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to take decisive action following the violent incidents at the Odorkor Methodist Church Polling Centre (St Peter’s Society) during the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun.

Speaking on Friday, July 11, 2025, Dr Bawumia condemned the chaos that marred the electoral process and urged the president to ensure that all perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice.

“We have seen them on video. I am calling on the president to take action in bringing the perpetrators to book and should they not be brought to book, let me assure them we will bring them to book, no matter how long it takes. This is the only way we can deter this in the future,” he stated.

The Electoral Commission ordered a rerun in 19 polling stations within the constituency after disputes arose over unauthenticated results from the December 7, 2024, elections.

However, tensions escalated during the rerun, with reports of voter intimidation, violent clashes, and arrests involving individuals in unapproved uniforms.

Dr Bawumia called on the relevant authorities to ensure a swift and impartial investigation, urging the public to remain calm while the electoral process is concluded peacefully.
