‘Cease calling yourself Igbo King in Ga State’ – Ga Traditional Council cautions Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu

The Ga Traditional Council has directed Eze Dr Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu to cease acting as King or conducting any traditional activities within the Ga State.

A statement signed by Evelyn Amewotse, Registrar for the President of the Ga Traditional Council, added that all Igbo paramount and divisional chiefs installed by Mr Ihenetu must also desist from presenting themselves as such within the jurisdiction.

“All traditional and cultural festivities under the guise of importing Igbo culture presided over by Mr Ihenetu, in his capacity as King of the Igbos in the Ga State should cease forthwith,” it said.

The Council expressed dismay over recent developments involving Mr Ihenetu, and at an emergency meeting held on 9 July 2025—chaired by King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, Ga Mantse—unanimously resolved to disassociate from all his activities.

It clarified that the Ga Traditional Council has “never recognised anybody or person as a King of Igbos within the Ga State,” and reiterated that formal recognition required entry into the National Register of Chiefs.

“The Ga Traditional Council wishes to assure the entire general public that we Gas are a peaceful people and welcome all tribes, communities and people of other nations into the Ga State on condition that they respect the Ga Traditions and customs.”

“Any person(s) who disrespect these directives with intent to disrupt the peace of the Ga State shall be dealt with by law. Our goodwill and respect for other tribes and people of other nations should not be taken for granted,” the statement said.
