Dr. Razak Kojo Opoku, a key strategist within the Bryan Acheampong for President 2028 campaign, has issued a clarion call for urgent structural reforms within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), warning that the party’s foundation is too fragile to support a successful electoral comeback in 2028 unless drastic changes are made.
In a candid post shared on his official Facebook page on Friday, July 11, 2025, Dr. Opoku didn’t mince words, describing the party’s current internal machinery as “extremely weak.” He called for a comprehensive overhaul of the party’s leadership architecture at all levels, insisting that any conversation about selecting a presidential candidate must be preceded by grassroots reorganisation.
“We need Bottom-Top structure elections, and a serious, committed electioneering army,” he wrote. “Let’s fix the structures of the party first at all levels of leadership before electing a flagbearer for 2028.”
Dr. Opoku’s remarks strike at the heart of growing discontent within party ranks following the NPP’s devastating loss in the 2024 general elections. As competing camps jostle for influence ahead of 2028, his message comes as both a wake-up call and a strategic warning—that without rebuilding from the ground up, the party risks another humiliating defeat.
His appeal echoes broader sentiments within the Bryan Acheampong campaign, which has been positioning itself as the vehicle for renewal and discipline within the NPP. With calls for grassroots empowerment gaining traction, Dr. Opoku’s comments are expected to stir fresh debate about the future direction of the party.
Meanwhile, preparations for a crucial National Delegates Conference are underway, with party leaders setting the stage for what could be a defining moment in the NPP’s road to recovery.
Chairman of the Conference Planning Committee, Joseph Osei-Owusu, also known as Joe Wise, announced that 5,675 delegates are expected to attend the two-day event, scheduled for Thursday, July 18 and Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Accra.
Speaking at a press briefing at the party’s headquarters in Asylum Down on Thursday, July 10, Mr. Osei-Owusu assured stakeholders that meticulous logistical and security arrangements have been put in place.
“We have made all the necessary arrangements to ensure that this important conference proceeds in a peaceful, well-organised, and secure environment,” he stated.
The conference is expected to attract national party executives, regional coordinators, constituency leaders, and grassroots representatives, all of whom will help shape the NPP’s policy direction and internal reforms ahead of the 2028 election cycle.
For many party insiders, Dr. Opoku’s remarks serve as a timely reminder that rebuilding trust, capacity, and unity at the grassroots level must take precedence over early presidential ambition.
As the conference date nears, it remains to be seen whether the leadership will heed his call—or risk repeating history.
