Hello Plant-for-Ghana Team,
We’re interested in collaborating with you on forest restoration efforts at Akyem Abuakwa, specifically at Akyem Juaso. Our extended family clan are the biggest private freehold landowners in the area, with a 14-square-mile upland evergreen rainforest that is part of a designated Globally Significant Biodiversity Area (GSBA).
Conservation International conducted a rapid assessment survey there in 2006, sponsored by Alcoa. 99.6 acres of our land lie inside the Atewa Forest Reserve, with the rest on the off-reserve slopes. The results and recommendations are available online at: RAP Bulletin No. 47.
Unfortunately, our freehold Akyem Juaso upland evergreen rainforest property is under severe threat from galamsey and illegal logging for chainsaw milling. We’d love to explore permaculture and agroforestry principles to rewild our badly degraded rainforest and protect it from these threats.
Please let us know if this is something you’d be interested in discussing further.
Kind regards,
Kofi.
