Bawumia never saw the need to seek justice for Ayawaso West by-election victims — Edem Agbana

The Member of Parliament for Ketu North, Eric Edem Agbana, has taken a swipe at former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia over what he describes as his double standards on electoral violence.

Dr. Bawumia had earlier condemned the chaos that marred parts of the parliamentary rerun in Ablekuma North on Friday, July 11.

The rerun, conducted in 19 polling stations, was characterized by violent scenes as thugs stormed voting centres, attacking several people, including journalists.

Speaking to the media on the same day, the 2024 the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer called on President John Dramani Mahama and the relevant authorities to ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice.

“And let me assure them that should they not be brought to book, we will not forget. We will make sure they are held accountable no matter how long it takes,” Dr. Bawumia stated.

Responding in a social media post on Sunday, July 13, Edem Agbana stated that the former Vice President, as Chairman of the Police Council, failed to deliver justice for victims of the 2019 Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election violence.

“Dr. Bawumia was the Chairman of the Police Council at the time we witnessed the brutalities during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.

“From January 2019 to January 2025, he never saw the need to seek justice for the victims of AWW. Today, he is promising justice for the victims of Ablekuma North should he become President. THE IRONY!!!” the lawmaker wrote.

Meanwhile, the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun, which saw the National Democratic Congress’ Ewurabena Aubynn emerge victorious, was held in areas where results from the 2024 elections were not certified by Electoral Commission officers due to earlier violence.
