President Mahama attends Bambawia Islamic Institute’s 29th Annual Quranic ceremony

President John Dramani Mahama over the weekend, attended the 29th Annual Quranic Ceremony of the Bambawia Islamic Institute in Tamale.

The event brought together thousands of Muslims, traditional leaders, and community members to foster unity and promote spiritual growth in the region and Ghana at large.

Addressing the gathering, President John Dramani Mahama acknowledged the critical role Islamic institutions continue to play in shaping morality, promoting peace, and building civic responsibility in Ghana.

He assured the audience that under his leadership, the government would continue to strengthen collaboration with Muslim leaders on education, youth development, health, and governance.

The President also revealed that his government would soon commence a 100 billion Ghana Cedis “Big Push” infrastructure programme, which would include major road networks across the country.

In an interview after the event, the Founder of the Bambawia Islamic Institute, Sheikh Lukman Mohammed Bamba, explained that the purpose of the annual celebration, which has been held consistently for decades, is to bring people together, nurture them in the Islamic way of life, and promote peace and harmony between Muslims and Christians.

Sheikh Lukman Bamba also advised the youth to always listen to the counsel of their parents, describing them as the best lovers of Allah’s creatures, and encouraged them to respect their elders and heed their words. He further expressed profound gratitude to President Mahama and traditional rulers for honouring the event.

The Chairman of the occasion, Chief Ambassador Naa Abdulai Yakubu, expressed gratitude to Sheikh Lukman Bamba for bringing everyone together, acknowledging his immense contribution to youth education through the Institute. He appealed to President Mahama and the Minister of Education to support Sheikh Bamba’s efforts by helping expand the facility to include a senior high school, thereby broadening the Institute’s educational reach.

The ceremony was marked by Quranic recitations, prayers, and strong calls for national unity and peaceful coexistence by by Sheikh Lukuman Bamba, Sheikh Wadudu and other Imams.
