Swedru School of Business students urge parliamentary committee to fulfil promise on renovation

Students of the Swedru School of Business (Swesbus), located at Agona Swedru in the Agona West Municipality of the Central Region, have made a passionate appeal to the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education to honour its promise to renovate the school’s girls’ dormitory and toilet facilities, which are currently in a deplorable state.

According to the students, the poor condition of these facilities is not only a major inconvenience but also poses serious health risks and disrupts effective teaching and learning. They expressed hope for a swift intervention to improve their living and learning environment.

A team of media personnel who visited the campus confirmed the students’ concerns. The girls’ dormitory and toilet facilities were indeed in disrepair, with visible signs of deterioration that make sleeping and attending to basic needs difficult. The toilet facility, in particular, was described as unsafe and feared to be a potential death trap.

When contacted on the matter, the Headmaster of Swesbus, Mr. Samuel Kojo Frimpong, acknowledged the urgency of the situation and confirmed that since the Committee’s visit some months ago, the school has not received any further communication or assistance.

“I am hopeful that the Committee is working around the clock and will soon fulfil its promise to rehabilitate the deplorable girls’ dormitory and the toilet facilities in the school. What we have to do is to keep on praying for them to keep us in mind and come to ‘Macedonia’ and help us,” Mr. Frimpong stated.

He assured students that school authorities were actively seeking ways to speed up the renovation process. While he downplayed the health risks described by the students, he acknowledged that urgent repairs would significantly improve the environment for teaching and learning.

Mr. Frimpong reiterated the school’s commitment to ensuring the welfare of its students and called on all relevant stakeholders to come to the school’s aid.
