‘Adidome is not a town of ritual killers’ – Chief breaks silence, denounces allegations

The Dufia of Mafi Adidome, Togbe Kwasinyi Kakaklolo Agyeman V, has condemned what he describes as “barbaric, backwards, anti-social” and false allegations linking his town to recent ritual murders.

In a firm rebuttal, he declared that such acts are “in total contradiction to the values of modern, progressive society.”

In a statement issued and signed by Dr Gideon Quarcoo, Principal Elder of the Toh/Tovie Clan and Head of Communication, the Chief of Mafi Adidome clarified that those allegedly involved in the reported killings are not natives of the town.

“They are not citizens of Adidome, even though they live on our lands (Adidome lands),” he stated.

“Perhaps with Mafi Adidome being the district and constituency capital of Central Tongu, it is understandable why it would be the main town of reference.”

Togbe Agyeman, who is also a senior Divisional Chief of the Mafi Traditional Area and Head Chief of the Toh/Tovie Clan, emphasized, “with my background in sociology, I acknowledge and appreciate the nature and why various belief systems exist within the social structure of societies, just as much as there is freedom of association.

“However, no cultural, religious or spiritual justification can excuse acts that undermine the sanctity of human life and threaten the moral fabric of society.”

He described Mafi Adidome as “a blessed and consecrated land,” and reaffirmed that it is “a town of peace, vision, and development.”

According to him, “the leadership of this community is focused on building a future rooted in education, economic empowerment, and social progress – not fear and superstition.”

Togbe Agyeman declared, “I am a believer in the gospel of Jesus Christ, but I am not condemning these alleged acts of murder only because of my religious belief, but because it is criminal, uncivilised, anti-development and ungodly, if they are proven.”

Reaffirming his leadership’s resolve, he stressed: “We know it is almost an impossible task to eliminate crime from any society, but we must all be committed to exposing such elements in our community, even if they are family relations.”

He added that “the traditions of the land do not permit or endorse such actions in any form,” cautioning against efforts to tarnish the town’s reputation.

He called on the state, law enforcement agencies, and fellow traditional rulers to collaborate more effectively to “identify and uproot criminal elements in society.”

He emphasised, “As traditional leaders, we are custodians of values that promote unity, peace, and development. I call on the government and security agencies to work more closely with us to eliminate such criminal activities.”

Togbe Agyeman endorsed the proposed reforms to the chieftaincy institution by President John Mahama, saying the effort should “also focus on dealing with gaps identified in the Chieftaincy Act, 2008 (Act 759), especially redundant provisions in section 63 of the Act.”

“To the bereaved families, we extend our deepest condolences,” he said.

“The people of Mafi Adidome stand with you in sorrow and in the pursuit of justice. These are isolated criminal incidents and do not reflect the true character of our community.”

Togbe Kwasinyi Kakaklolo Agyeman V concluded by assuring Ghanaians that “Mafi Adidome remains a peaceful, hospitable, loving, law-abiding, business-friendly, and forward-looking community that warmly welcomes all people, regardless of background or origin.”
