High Court denies bail for Agradaa pending appeal

The High Court in Amasaman has rejected a bail application filed by the legal team of Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, widely known as Nana Agradaa, as she awaits the outcome of her appeal against a 15-year jail sentence.

Confirming the court’s decision in an interview with Citi News on Tuesday, July 15, a member of her legal team, Dr. Bernard Kofi Asamoah, said the court declined to grant bail and instructed the Circuit Court to submit all relevant records concerning the ongoing appeal.

“We wanted bail pending appeal, and the court did not grant it. The court has given an order that the Circuit Court furnish the court with all the processes needed for the appeal. We will continue the appeal process,” Dr. Asamoah stated.

This development is the latest chapter in Nana Agradaa’s legal battle following her conviction earlier this month. On July 3, she was handed a 15-year prison sentence by the Circuit Court, presided over by Justice Evelyn Asamoah, after she was found guilty of defrauding by false pretence and engaging in charlatanic advertisement.

Her legal team quickly filed a notice of appeal, arguing that the conviction was flawed and the sentence unduly harsh. Lead counsel Richard Asare Baffour disclosed on July 7 that a formal appeal had been submitted to the High Court, seeking to overturn both the guilty verdict and the custodial sentence.

Despite the High Court’s refusal to grant her bail while the appeal is being considered, Nana Agradaa’s lawyers say they remain undeterred and will continue to push forward through the judicial process.
