The MP sponsored a trip for winners his Annual Science and Math Competition to Parliament
The Member of Parliament for Ellembelle Constituency, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has affirmed his commitment to supporting Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education in the Ellembelle area.
The MP, who also serves as the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, made this statement when he hosted winners of an Annual Math and Science competition, spearheaded by his office, in Parliament on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
“I am excited that they were able to make it here, but more importantly, I am thrilled about the possibilities for their future. I met them, had a chat, and encouraged them, telling them they are on the right path and will have our full support. They should stay focused, keep their eyes on the prize, and I believe they will become the doctors and engineers we hope will build not only Ghana but our beloved Ellembelle District. I am very proud of them,” the MP said.
He commended the teachers and education officers in the district for their tireless efforts in promoting STEM education, while noting the determination of the students to pursue STEM despite challenges from their individual backgrounds.
The MP underscored the importance of STEM education and affirmed his support through various incentives, such as scholarships for the winners.
“For example, I have committed to supporting them throughout. The winner, Seidu, will receive a full scholarship from the MP. I am very excited, and they should continue,” he stated.
The Ellembelle District STEM Coordinator, Leticia Quarshie, who led the students, expressed gratitude to the MP for his keen interest in STEM education and for sponsoring their trip to Parliament.
“Before, the learners were scared of science and math, but through this initiative, we have realised that every child in Ellembelle District can boast that they are picking up, and there is no more fear of science and math,” she said.
In recent years, STEM education in Ghana has gained increasing attention as a critical driver of national development, innovation, and economic growth.
The government, recognizing the importance of STEM in addressing modern challenges and fostering industrialization, has prioritized its integration into the education system through various policies, though challenges remain.
