Dison International School holds colourful graduation to mark academic progress

Dison International School, a distinguished Cambridge Curriculum institution situated at Burma Hills in Accra, has held a vibrant graduation ceremony to honour its young learners progressing to the next stages of their academic journey.

The occasion brought together proud parents, guardians, teachers, invited guests, and the wider student body, as pupils transitioned from reception to primary, primary to lower secondary, and others marked their successful completion of the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE).

The event was a delightful showcase of talent and creativity. Pupils enthralled the audience with choreographed performances, cultural dances, piano recitals, and a fashion parade — a clear reflection of the school’s dedication to nurturing well-rounded individuals alongside academic achievement.

Delivering an address on the theme “Celebrating the Past: Embracing the Future”, the Guest of Honour, Honourable Martin Kwaku Adjei-Mensah Korsah, Member of Parliament for Techiman South Constituency, reflected on the humble beginnings of the institution.

“We are gathered here not only to celebrate the achievements of our graduands, but also to honour the inspiring journey of Dison International School — a journey that beautifully exemplifies the power of vision and perseverance. Today, we pay tribute to the modest roots of this institution,” he remarked.

Hon. Korsah urged the graduands to draw inspiration from the school’s journey, and to uphold the values of excellence and critical thinking instilled in them.

He recounted how the school began as a nursery operating from a garage at house number D7 in Lamogne Estates, with just six children. What was initially known as Dolly Memorial Crèche and Nursery School has since evolved into a full-fledged educational institution of repute.

“It is truly extraordinary to think that such a humble beginning laid the foundation for generations of learning and growth. From that garage, the school grew steadily in strength and reputation,” he added.

“To our graduands, we celebrate all you have achieved — each lesson learned, each friendship formed, and every challenge overcome. You are living proof that no beginning is too small, and no dream too ambitious. As you step into the next phase of your journey, carry with you the spirit of this community. Embrace the future with courage and optimism,” he encouraged.

He also extended commendation to parents, guardians, teachers, and staff for their steadfast support in advancing the school’s vision, and for nurturing students not only academically, but also with vital life skills.

In her keynote address, the school’s Principal, Ms Ade Patricia, expressed immense pride in the graduating class.

“You may be little, but your dreams are big — and so are your hearts,” she remarked. “This academic journey has been marked by learning, growth, and discovery. You have been tested not only through textbooks, but through real-life challenges.”

Ms Patricia lauded the pupils’ performance in the Cambridge Checkpoint examinations, highlighting that the school’s average scores exceeded international benchmarks.

“In English, the international average was 33 out of 50; our school average was 39. In Mathematics, while the world average was 31, we achieved 38. In Science, the world average stood at 31, but our pupils recorded an impressive 43. Last year, our overall score was 38; this year, we’ve moved to 39,” she proudly shared.

Looking ahead, she revealed an ambitious target for the next academic year. “Our goal is to raise our average to between 43 and 45 out of 50. I believe, with the support of teachers, parents, and the determination of our students, we can achieve this.”

A poignant moment during the ceremony came with the valedictorian’s speech, where the top graduating student expressed heartfelt appreciation to school leadership, dedicated teachers, and supportive parents, attributing their success to divine favour.

Some parents and guardians who attended the ceremony commended the school for its holistic approach to education and its commitment to nurturing each child’s potential.

The ceremony also featured an awards segment where outstanding pupils were recognised for academic excellence, commendable conduct, and meaningful contributions to school life. Recipients, beaming with pride, received their prizes amidst cheers and applause.

The event concluded with a choral performance by the graduands, offering gratitude to God for a successful ceremony, as the Dison community looks forward to continued excellence in the years ahead.
