Justice Torkonoo should keep quiet, endure the law she’s been presiding over — Hannah Bissiw

The National Women’s Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Hannah Louisa Bissiw, has called on suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Esaaba Torkonoo to remain silent and allow the process for her removal to proceed.

Justice Torkonoo has been on suspension since April 22, after the Council of State established a prima facie case in three separate petitions seeking her removal.

She has since challenged the process in the High Court, the Supreme Court, and currently at the ECOWAS Court in Abuja, Nigeria, alleging violations of her human rights.

Reacting to the matter on Accra-based Channel One TV’s Eyewitness News, Dr. Bissiw said the process is in line with the laws of Ghana and urged the embattled Chief Justice to respect the same legal system she has served.

“I think there are laws in this country, and she is the Chief Justice. I must be very sincere with you, I’ve not gone into the details of her case, but I know President John Dramani Mahama is not a vindictive person,” she stated.

“Why is she running away from the very laws she has presided over for years? She has jailed people and made judgments in line with these same laws. Whatever she’s going through, there are laws in Ghana, and I think she should be able to stand those laws,” Dr. Bissiw added.
