Four individuals have been arrested over murder of 70-year-old woman accused of witchcraft
The Police in the Bunkpurugu Yunyoo District of the Northeast Region have arrested four individuals in connection with the gruesome murder of a 70-year-old woman, Noab Bilatukin, at Sangbana, a village near Bunkpurugu.
According to a police statement dated July 15, 2025, the suspects identified as Suuk Jakwa 67, Banyiwoo Ntookwib 32, Moapya Kwayaja 30, and Amos Nlaji 29, allegedly accused the elderly woman of being a witch and lynched her on July 10, 2025.
They reportedly fled the village after committing the act.
However, acting on intelligence, police officers arrested the suspects at their various hideouts in surrounding villages on July 14, 2025.
“On July 14, 2025, police arrested four suspects in villages near Bunkpurugu based on intelligence. The suspects are currently undergoing interrogation. They will be put before court following the completion of the investigation,” the statement said.
The Ghana Police Service has strongly condemned the incident and reiterated its stance against witchcraft-related accusations and mob violence, especially against the elderly.
