‘How dare you, who are you!?’

A fiery exchange erupted on Peace FM’s morning show on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, between Nana Akomea, a former Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and Kwesi Pratt Jnr, Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, during a panel discussion on the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun.

The debate, which centered on the violence that marred the July 11 rerun, particularly the physical assault of former Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Mavis Hawa Koomson, quickly escalated into personal attacks between the two seasoned commentators.

Kwesi Pratt, known for his outspoken views, accused the former MP of being a common denominator in incidents of political chaos.

“She foments trouble wherever she goes,” Pratt remarked, sparking an immediate rebuttal from Nana Akomea who found the statement defamatory.

“This is character assassination. You’re stigmatizing her unfairly,” Akomea a former Managing Director of the State Transport Company challenged. What followed was a prolonged shouting match between the two, filled with interruptions and accusations.

“Your behavior on this programme is becoming unacceptable,” Pratt lashed out. Akomea, visibly incensed, shot back: “You are deciding over my behavior? How dare you? You are stigmatizing the woman.”

Pratt fired again, saying, “Your behaviour is repugnant; you don’t allow anybody to talk around this table.” Akomea responded in kind: “You can’t just say anything and then deny it when challenged. This is complete misbehavior.”

The confrontation escalated further, with Akomea accusing Pratt of disrespecting colleagues and consistently interrupting discussions. “You show a lot of disrespect to your colleague panelists and you must stop that,” he said.

Pratt, refusing to back down, said: “You don’t respect yourself at all. I’ve tolerated you for far too long. You’re not the one to tell me how to talk.”

The increasingly tense atmosphere forced host Kwame Sefa Kayi to step in and restore order. In a firm but measured tone, the broadcaster rebuked both men.

“You are out of order,” he said, adding that the discussion had lost its focus. He specifically called out Nana Akomea for interrupting Pratt excessively. “I think respectfully you have been unfair to Kwesi. You have heckled him too much. You have done enough, please stop it.”
