Your Excellency,
📜This is not an expression of partisan grievance—it is a solemn and unified appeal for justice. The people of Atiwa West deserve an impartial investigation of collusion and administrative negligence surrounding illegal mining. As demonstrated in your recent directive referring two senior NDC executives to EOCO, Ghana is clearly capable of pursuing truth without fear or favor. That same standard of seriousness must now be extended to the Atiwa West District.
Despite national policy efforts, excavators continue to vanish ahead of task force deployments—strongly suggesting internal leaks from the District Security Council, chaired by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Johnson Amo Anom. Mr. Joe Ofori, widely recognized in the district as the DCE’s operative, has been implicated in obstructing enforcement and coordinating illicit mining logistics. Reports of desecration of sacred lands, including ancestral cemeteries, deepen this betrayal—violating environmental law and our cherished cultural values.
This is not merely a breakdown in governance; it is a rupture of spiritual and communal trust. Even traditional authorities entrusted as custodians of the land have been accused of complicity or silence. Public confidence continues to erode, including among loyalists of the ruling party. Mr. Hopeson Adorye recently described the DCE’s actions as a “disgusting betrayal” during a live broadcast on CTV—a sentiment shared by many in the community.
In the course of that broadcast, Mr. Amo Anom claimed in a private conversation, with Hopeson Adorye, to possess documentation—videos, photographs, and routine reports—allegedly cataloguing his efforts against galamsey. However, these records have not been publicly disclosed or verified, nor have they been officially submitted to the Presidency. To ensure transparency, investigators should formally request these materials, authenticate their content, and examine whether they align with the situation on the ground. The integrity of public office must be affirmed through evidence, not assertion.
🛡️ We respectfully request the following actions:
1. A fully independent and impartial inquiry into the alleged collusion between the DCE, his associates, and any implicated traditional authorities.
2. Immediate forensic mapping and preservation of desecrated lands, including sacred sites.
3. Protection for whistleblowers and community witnesses, many of whom fear reprisal for speaking out.
4. Transparent publication of all findings and swift sanctions against those found to have betrayed public trust.
Let this be the moment Ghana reclaims its soul—from the flowing veins of the Birim River to the sacred groves of Atiwa West. We are not calling for partisan reckoning—we are calling for justice that transcends allegiance.
Sincerely,
Retired Senior Citizen
for and on behalf of all Senior Citizens and Environmentalists
