Two members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Shamsudeen Iddrisu and Kwadwo Boateng, have filed an application at the Accra High Court seeking an interlocutory injunction to stop the party’s upcoming National Delegates Conference scheduled for Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

According to court documents sighted by GhanaWeb on Thursday, July 17, 2025, the two plaintiffs are praying the court to issue:

“An order of interlocutory injunction restraining the defendant from organising the Extraordinary National Delegates Conference pending the final determination of the instant suit.”

In his supporting affidavit, Kwadwo Boateng stated that he is a card-bearing member of the NPP in the Bantama Constituency, located in the Ashanti Region.

He further noted that the NPP’s structures, conduct, and internal procedures are governed by the party’s constitution.

Citing relevant sections of the party’s constitution, Boateng argued, “Every year, at least four weeks before the Regional Annual Delegates Conference, a Constituency Annual Delegates Conference must be held in every constituency. Similarly, a Regional Annual Delegates Conference must take place at least four weeks before the National Annual Delegates Conference.”

He continued, “The actions, conduct, membership, structure, organisation, procedures, and activities of the Defendant/Respondent are governed by the Constitution of the New Patriotic Party (hereinafter referred to as ‘the Constitution’). I have attached a copy of the NPP Constitution to this affidavit, marked as Exhibit BK 2.”

Boateng maintained that, “Per the Constitution, at least four (4) weeks prior to the Regional Annual Delegates Conference, there shall be a Constituency Annual Delegates Conference organised by the party in every constituency.”

The plaintiffs contend that the upcoming conference fails to comply with these constitutional requirements and should therefore be halted until the court makes a final ruling on the matter.
