The Governing Council of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi has appointed Mr. Benjamin Boampong Owusu as the new Registrar.

The appointment marks a significant milestone in Mr. Boampong Owusu’s distinguished career in higher education administration, spanning over two decades of service across multiple divisions of the university.

Mr. Owusu began his career at KNUST in 2001 as a Senior Administrative Assistant at the Students’ Counselling Unit. On 1st January 2007, he was appointed Principal Administrative Assistant at the Office of the Dean of Students.

In April 2010, he was promoted to Assistant Registrar in the Registrar’s Office and was subsequently posted to the College of Engineering, where he oversaw student affairs, administrative operations, and academic event coordination. His responsibilities included organizing matriculation ceremonies, career workshops, and examinations, as well as managing staff schedules and equipment logistics.

In 2015, Mr. Owusu transitioned to the Institute of Distance Learning (IDL) to support its growing student population. Later that year, he joined the Human Resource Development Division (HRDD), where he rose through the ranks to become Senior Assistant Registrar.

He was responsible for managing staff schedules, coordinating appointments and promotions, and serving on key university committees such as the University Appointments and Promotions Committee (UAPC) and the College Board.

Mr. Owusu’s research interests include administrative law, student participation in decision-making, and institutional policy development.

He is a member of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) and the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), reflecting his dual expertise in law and university governance.

His appointment is expected to strengthen KNUST’s administrative leadership and reinforce its commitment to institutional excellence. Mr. Owusu succeeds Mr. Andrews Kwasi Boateng, who served as Registrar during a period of significant digital transformation and academic expansion.

Mr. Owusu is married to Dr. (Mrs.) Lydia Boampong Owusu, and the couple has four children.
