Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Mubaric Muntaka, has paid a heartfelt visit to Sergeant Akocha Samuel, the valiant police officer who sustained critical gunshot wounds during an intense anti-robbery operation in La, a suburb of Accra.
Sgt. Akocha, who took bullets to both his chest and leg, is currently battling for recovery at the Police Hospital in Accra, where he continues to receive urgent medical care.
He was part of a police unit that responded to a robbery call. Despite the heavy exchange of fire and his serious injuries, the team managed to arrest two of the suspects. The rest fled and are currently being pursued by law enforcement as investigations intensify.
During his visit to the hospital, Minister Muntaka praised Sgt. Akocha for exhibiting exceptional courage and selflessness in the line of duty.
“I commend Sgt. Akocha for his bravery, dedication, and exceptional service to our country,” Mr. Muntaka said. “On behalf of a grateful nation, I extend my deepest gratitude and wish him a full and speedy recovery.”
The Minister also instructed the medical team at the Police Hospital to ensure the officer receives the highest standard of care, affirming government’s commitment to those who put their lives on the line for national safety.
The incident has reignited conversations about the harsh realities faced by Ghana’s security personnel and the urgent need for increased protection and welfare support for officers in high-risk operations.
