The moment fans had been waiting for finally came — and it did not disappoint. The grand finale of the 2025 Eastern Regional Championship of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) delivered drama, rivalry, and pure excitement.

After defending champions, Koforidua Sec Tech, were knocked out earlier, three determined schools—Okuapeman SHS, Pope John’s SHS and Minor Seminary, and St Peter’s SHS, rose to the occasion and battled for the coveted trophy.

The atmosphere inside the GNAT Hall in Koforidua was electric. Jama songs echoed across the auditorium as students and supporters from all three schools sang, danced, and rallied their teams before the contest began.

Round one kicked off with all teams on fire, confidently answering their questions. By the end of the round, Pope John’s had picked up 18 points, while Okuapeman and St Peter’s were tied at 24 points, setting the stage for a close contest.

The pressure intensified in the speed race. Pope John’s opened the round with a correct answer, but St Peter’s took charge, securing the second and third questions. As both Pope John’s and St Peter’s dominated the buzzer, they widened the gap. At the end of the round, St Peter’s led with 34 points, Okuapeman trailed with 29, and Pope John’s followed with 22.

Then came the true or false round — a decisive moment. St Peter’s aced every question. Okuapeman and Pope John’s, however, stumbled slightly, allowing St Peter’s to extend their lead to 40 points. Okuapeman followed closely with 36, while Pope John’s crept up to 35.

In the final riddle round, Okuapeman jumped in first and got it right. St Peter’s responded with two accurate answers of their own. Pope John’s secured the final riddle, but it wasn’t enough to catch up with Persco. However, it was enough to even the scores with Okuapeman, forcing a tie-breaker.

The final question came. Pope John’s buzzed in—wrong. Okuapeman tried—correct. But at that point, St Peter’s SHS had already sealed their dominance.

With unmatched consistency and sharp execution, St Peter’s emerged champions once again, lifting the Eastern Regional title for the fourth time.
