
Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has announced a scheduled shutdown of the Barekese Water Treatment Plant on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
In a press release issued on Monday, July 21, GWL explained that the temporary closure is to enable the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to carry out critical maintenance works on power lines servicing the plant.
The shutdown will affect water supply to several communities, including Barekese Headworks, Kronum Cement, Heman Amoama Nketia, Asuofua, CONSAR Quarry, Adankyame, Adugaina, Naachia Quarry, Barekese town, Asira, Offinso, Namong, Kayera, Tutuase, Nsubtam, Kyerekrorh, Boamang, Tetrem, Habitat, Ahenkro, Kwamang, Kodie, Akrofrom, Aduman, Aduamoah, Denase, Pampatia, KCG Company, and their surrounding areas.
GWL assured the public that water production will resume immediately after ECG restores power to the facility.
The company apologized for the inconvenience the shutdown may cause and urged customers to store enough water ahead of the interruption. GWL stressed that the maintenance is essential to ensuring improved and reliable water service delivery.
