Ofoase-Ayirebi MP, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has refuted claims that former President John Agyekum Kufuor has been sidelined by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), describing a viral video suggesting so as “heavily edited and misleading.”
The former Information Minister said Mr Kufuor remains a respected elder within the party and is consistently engaged in major party decisions.
He believes the circulation of the controversial video is part of a deliberate attempt to sow division in the NPP.
His comments follow concerns raised by the former President in a conversation with Abetifi MP Bryan Acheampong, where the former president appeared to lament being ignored by the current leadership.
“Our elders are extensively consulted. In fact, as we were doing this work, Lawyer Frank Davis and his committee spent hours with President Kufuor, taking him through the proposals and getting his views on them,” Oppong Nkrumah said on Channel One TV’s Point of View on Monday, July 21.
According to him, “This attempt by some party persons to create an impression using heavily edited videos must stop. If you watch the unedited version, you’ll see exactly what President Kufuor meant.”
Oppong Nkrumah noted that even though President Akufo-Addo and President Kufuor could not attend the NPP’s National Extraordinary Delegates Conference on July 19, their inputs were sought ahead of the event.
“There’s not a single council meeting we’ve held without inviting President Kufuor. There’s not a major party decision we’ve taken without consulting him. When he’s unable to attend, his office always writes back,” he stressed.
