The Ghana Police Service has successfully foiled a planned armed robbery operation in Accra, resulting in the death of two suspects and the injury of a police officer.
According to a statement from the Police, the operation was carried out on Monday, July 15, 2025, by the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) Headquarters in Accra, following credible intelligence.
The information indicated that five armed men were lodging at a hotel in Labadi and were planning to rob a foreign national in the Cantonments area.
Acting swiftly on the tip-off, a surveillance team tracked the suspects, who were traveling in a Toyota Yaris vehicle towards their target location. However, upon detecting the police presence, the suspects opened fire on the officers, injuring one in the legs and underarm.
The police returned fire, injuring two of the suspects. They were quickly rushed to the Police Hospital but were later pronounced dead. The injured officer is currently on admission and responding well to treatment, authorities confirmed.
During a search of the vehicle and surrounding area, police retrieved two pump-action guns loaded with ammunition, live cartridges, three mobile phones, talismans, and other unspecified items.
A manhunt is currently underway for the remaining three suspects who managed to flee the scene and are believed to be hiding within Accra and its environs.
The Ghana Police Service has assured the public of its commitment to ensuring safety and has called on anyone with information on the whereabouts of the fleeing suspects to assist in the ongoing investigations.
