A 23-year-old woman, Akua Afriyie, from Karlo in the Suaman District of the Western North region, has allegedly killed her 4-year-old son, adomonline.com has reported.

According the report, the lady killed her son so that she could get the opportunity to marry a guy she so desired.

It has been reported that a man wanted to marry Akua Afriyie, but her 4-year-old son became a hindrance, as he did not want a child from her previous relationship.

To make her dream of marrying the man come true, Akua Afriyie was reported to have allegedly killed her son by dropping him into a well in the town, causing him to drown

Though the report did not indicate how the crime was detected, the source quoted the Assembly Member for the area, Eric Armah as saying the suspected admitted to the offense during interrogations by the police.

The heinous crime which sent shivers down the spines of residents, occurred on Saturday, July 21, 2025.

“According to the Assembly Member for the Karlo Electoral Area, Eric Armah, the suspect admitted during police interrogation that she committed the act in a desperate attempt to please a man she hoped to marry”, said the report.

According to the details of the report, Akua Afriyie, who has left Karlo for some time, returned recently with her 4-year-old son.

Her decision to return to Karlo, per the report, was just to kill her son and become single in order to facilitate her desire to get married to her beloved one.

“Investigations indicate that before the incident, the child reportedly pleaded with his mother to spare his life. Though she initially agreed, she later went through with her plan and threw him into the well”. The report said.

The police have since taken over the case for further investigation while the body of the child has been retrieved and deposited at the Enchi Government Hospital morgue.
