The Northern Regional Minister, Mr. Ali Adolf John Mburudiba, has commended Northern Sector Action on Awareness Centre (NORSAAC) for its role in youth empowerment, women’s advancement, and inclusive development in Northern Ghana.

He noted that NORSAAC’s livelihood programs align with the government’s Women’s Development Bank initiative, which seeks to expand opportunities for women and drive grassroots resilience.

The Minister said this at the mid-year review organized by NORSAAC on Tuesday in Tamale with the theme, “Strengthening Partnerships for Transformative Development.

He said NORSAAC’s efforts in localizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to make them relevant to marginalized groups, and improve transparency through community monitoring and social auditing are commendable.

The Minister proposed three strategic priorities for the remainder of the year: scaling proven interventions, institutionalizing CSO-led innovations, and confronting emerging challenges together.

He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building an enabling environment and working with civil society organizations like NORSAAC to achieve transformative development in the Northern Region.

The Executive Director of Northern Sector Action on Awareness Centre (NORSAAC), Alhaji Mohammed Awal, revealed that the Civil Society Organisation has by far directly reached 54,539 people with its programs.

He touched on stories of a girl who is currently in the business of advocating for sanitary pads in her community and a woman from Shedua, who built latrines without external incentives.

Alhaji Mohammed Awal also stated that the CSO has immensely contributed in the areas of Peace and Security, Economic Programs, National and Global Highlights, Education Programs, Health and Social Protection.

He disclosed that the withdrawal of USAID’s support has had adverse effects on NORSAAC, saying this decision has resulted in a 70% budget cut, staff reduction, geographical and thematic scale-down, and restructuring of operations.

The programme offered NORSAAC the platform to outline its impact and deepen the people’s understanding of the critical role it plays to promote development.

NORSAAC is an organization that is dedicated to championing an improved quality of life for empowered women, youth, and marginalized groups in order to improve social change and the living conditions of citizens.
