The Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, took to the streets in Accra to celebrate his victory when the Supreme Court ruled in favour of an application, he filed challenging a court order that cast doubt on his legitimacy.

In a unanimous decision, the Supreme Court has overturned a Kumasi High Court order—which was upheld by the Kumasi Court of Appeal—that sought to reinstate Nii Tackie Adama Latse II into the National House of Chiefs’ register as the Ga Mantse in a legal battle in which Nii Tackie Adama Latse II challenged Teiko Tsuru II for the Ga Mantse throne.

Videos of the Ga Mantse and his kingsmen jubilating on the streets of Accra after the Supreme Court’s judgment have gone viral.

King Teiko Tsuru II is seen waving a white cloth to a cheering crowd while sitting in his vehicle.

All the vehicles in the Ga Mantse’s convoy were blaring their horns as their occupants could be heard singing the appellations to the king.

Some men, who were accompanying the convoy on foot, could also be seen jubilating.

About the case:

King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II filed an application at the Supreme Court challenging the ruling of a High Court in Kumasi that the name of Nii Tackie Adama Latse II be reinstated in the records of the National House of Chiefs as Ga Mantse.

This came after the Court of Appeal in Kumasi threw out an appeal challenging the High Court, which was filed by the National House of Chiefs and one other party.

King Tsuru II, in his application, which was dated June 18, 2025, asked the Supreme Court to nullify the ruling of the High Court.

The Ga Mantse, through his lawyer Prof Atudiwe Atupare, also asked the apex court of the land to overrule the ruling of the Court of Appeal, which affirmed the judgment of the High Court that Nii Adama Latse II should be re-entered into the register of Ga Mantse.

Prof Atudiwe Atupare also argued that the Court of Appeal made “an error of law patent on the face of the record” in upholding the High Court ruling despite the fact that it (the High Court) lacked jurisdiction.
