NDC has always been smarter than this current NPP — Ebo Buckman

A leading member of the Movement for Change, Ebo Buckman, has criticised the New Patriotic Party (NPP), particularly the conduct of its minority caucus in Parliament.

According to him, the NPP is failing to act strategically in opposition, despite suffering its worst electoral defeat in the 2024 general elections.

Speaking on Accra-based TV3’s New Day show on Friday, July 25, Mr. Buckman said the minority’s boycott of the 2025 mid-year budget review only reinforces his belief that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has consistently outsmarted the NPP.

“Strategically, NPP is not being smart. I’ve always said NDC has always been smarter than NPP. I’m talking about this NPP. NDC is enjoying some goodwill, and as it’s normal because they are doing well, you don’t fight them the way you’re doing. If you fight them, it’s like you’re fighting the people,” he said.

He argued that the governing NDC is riding on strong public support, and the NPP’s confrontational approach is further alienating voters.

Buckman observed that if elections were held today, the NPP would lose even more seats and votes than in 2024.

The Movement for Change communicator also took a swipe at the party’s leadership, both in Parliament and at the national level, blaming them for the party’s current state of disarray.

“In fact, if we had to organize elections today, I can assure you, even the number of seats they have in Parliament will reduce, and even the percentage they had will reduce. So they will have to be strategic,” he stated.

“The leadership of NPP in Parliament is a big failure, to say the least. And even the leadership of the party itself is also nowhere to be found. So the party has become headless and lawless, and it’s no good for our democracy,” he added.
