From Paper to Planting: Advans Ghana champions Climate Action with 1000 tree seedlings

Advans Ghana Savings and Loans, a leading financial institution committed to sustainable development, has planted 1,110 tree seedlings across Accra and Tamale as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability.

Held under the theme “Greening Ghana Together” the initiative brought together management, staff, clients, host community volunteers, and the Forestry Commission to champion environmental restoration. The team planted acacia, teak, and shea trees in the Chipa Forest Reserve (Accra) and the Zugu Forest Reserve (Tamale) in June and July 2025.

These trees, once fully matured, will act as natural air filters, absorbing carbon dioxide, improving air quality, and helping to mitigate the effects of urban heat islands and flooding affected areas.

Building on the success of its 2024 tree-planting exercise, which achieved an 80% survival rate, Advans Ghana is also committed to nurturing these seedlings after planting to ensure their long-term impact. This effort reflects the company’s broader environmental vision: to contribute meaningfully to climate action while deepening its engagement with the communities it serves.

The company’s efforts are part of its corporate social responsibility and commitment to reducing its carbon footprint. The Forest Range Manager of the Tamale Forest District, Raymond Abaare, commended Advans Ghana for the initiative and pledged the commission will put in place protection mechanisms to ensure the safety of the plants.

Speaking at the event, the Head of Brands and Communications for Advans Ghana, Adeline Esi Sutherland highlighted the importance of the initiative, noting that it reflects the company’s proactive approach to environmental stewardship. “This initiative is part of a  a group-wide effort to significantly reduce our carbon footprint by reducing consumption of paper and by replacing what we consume” she stated.  She further explained that according to internal data, Advans Ghana used approximately 5,839 rims of paper in 2023. However, thanks to increased digitization efforts, this figure dropped significantly to 1,830 rims in 2024.

To put these figures into perspective, one rim of paper contains 500 sheets and uses about 6% of a single tree. This means one tree can produce roughly 8,333 sheets of paper—or approximately 16.67 rims. By planting 1110 trees, Advans Ghana is doing more than just replacing the approximately 110 trees consumed through paper use in 2024. This initiative significantly contributes to building a greener Ghana for the future.

Chief Human Resource Officer at Advans Ghana, Yaa Birago Ofori-Addo called on other corporate organizations to integrate environmental sustainability into their operations to strengthen their brand and to build trust. She said “at Advans Ghana, we have seen how even small steps like planting a tree can make a lasting difference. We encourage others to join us in building a greener, more responsible future”.

With this initiative, Advans aims not only to give back to the environment but also to inspire other corporate bodies to take similar action toward sustainability and resource conservation

Advans Ghana Savings and Loans is a subsidiary of the Advans Group headquartered in Paris with a presence in six countries in Africa. In Ghana, Advans operates in 19 branches across 8 regions serving over 130,000 clients. For over 17 years, Advans Ghana has been supporting entrepreneurs and is willing to remain their preferred financial partner..
