Even if it takes 10,000 years, NPP will prosecute Ablekuma North violence perpetrators — Nitiwul

Former Minister for Defence and Member of Parliament for Bimbilla, Dominic Nitiwul, has vowed that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will ensure justice is served in the Ablekuma North by-election violence incident, no matter how long it takes.

He said the perpetrators who assaulted voters, journalists and even former Fisheries Minister Mavis Hawa Koomson during the chaotic parliamentary election rerun on Friday, July 11, will not be allowed to escape justice.

He was speaking to the media after a petition was submitted to President John Dramani Mahama by the Minority Caucus on Thursday, July 24, calling for immediate action.

The violence, which played out in the full glare of cameras, drew condemnation from the public, with the NPP questioning the government’s commitment to arresting the culprits they claimed were sent by the NDC.

“We will prosecute those people even if it’s 10,000 years’ time, we will look for those people and punish them,” he said.

He stated that political affiliation will not shield anyone from punishment, urging the police to act swiftly to send a clear message that violence will not be tolerated in the country’s democratic processes.

“Once the police start acting, there’s nobody who will take the law into their hands because if you do, you’ll be picked up and arrested,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has announced the arrest of two of the perpetrators and assured that investigations are ongoing to arrest the rest and bring them to justice.
