34-year-old Yakubu Yussif has been unanimously confirmed as MCE for Mampong
Yakubu Yussif, a 34-year-old marketer and the NDC’s Parliamentary Candidate for Mampong in the December 2024 Election, has been unanimously confirmed as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Mampong.
The confirmation came after all 47 assembly members present and voting at a Special General Assembly Meeting held on Thursday, July 24, 2025, voted ‘Yes’ to endorse President John Dramani Mahama’s nominee.
With this confirmation, Mampong becomes the last of the 261 Assemblies in Ghana to have a chief executive, completing the appointment process across the country.
Prior to Yussif’s nomination, the assembly members held a press conference to express their concern about the delay in the nomination, describing it as a hindrance to the development of Mampong.
This prior concern likely contributed to the unanimous vote of confirmation.
Out of a total of 50 assembly members, including the Member of Parliament, Kwaku Ampratwum Sarpong, as an ex-officio member (without voting rights), 48 were eligible to participate in the confirmation election.
One government appointee, representing the Mampong Hemaa (Queen Mother), was absent with permission.
The MCE Nominee, Yakubu Yussif, is also a former Assembly Member for Kofiase Ahenbronum.
The election was supervised by the Electoral Commission, with a team including Deputy Regional Directors and the Mampong Municipal Elections Officer, Kwabena Karikari.
In his acceptance speech, Yakubu Yussif thanked President Mahama and the assembly members for their trust in his abilities to develop the Municipality. H
He identified sanitation, education, health, and infrastructure as his priority areas and assured the assembly members of his commitment to collaborative efforts for socio-economic development.
He also called for calm and cooperation from the Mampong traditional leadership and the people, pledging respect for all.
Nana Akwasidai Kodua, a government appointee representing the Mampong Traditional Council, pledged the support of the traditional authority while emphasising that the MCE’s performance would be closely monitored.
He advised the chiefs to rally around the MCE, devoid of tribal sentiments, to give peace and development a chance.
He commended the Assembly Members for prioritising Mampong’s development in their consideration.
Presidential Staffer, Isham Alhassan, representing the Ashanti Regional Minister, conveyed President Mahama’s confidence in the MCE Nominee’s ability to meet expectations and thanked the Assembly Members for their overwhelming endorsement.
The confirmation was witnessed by the DCEs for Bosomtwe, Ejura-Sekyedumase, Sekyere Central, and Sekyere South, as well as Abuasu, a former MCE for Mampong, as a show of solidarity.
