Heavy security deployed at Manhyia Palace following Asawase shootings

Armed security personnel have been deployed to the Manhyia Palace following a string of violent incidents in the Asawase area, including the recent killing of the Kusasi Chief of the Ashanti Region.

The heightened security aims to safeguard the palace and its surroundings amid growing concerns over escalating tensions.

The increased military and police visibility comes in the wake of multiple shootings in Asawase.

The Kusasi Chief, Alhaji Abdul‑Malik Azenbe, was gunned down by unknown assailants on Wednesday, July 23, an incident that sparked widespread fear among residents. Days later, another unidentified man was shot and killed similarly on Friday, July 25, further heightening tensions in the area.

In response to the violence, the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has introduced strict measures, including a ban on the use of motorbikes in Asawase and nearby communities after 7 p.m.

The ban also applies to unregistered motorbikes, mopeds without lights, and the wearing of smocks, items believed to be used to conceal weapons.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, who signed the statement, said the measures are necessary to restore calm and prevent further attacks.

Meanwhile, security agencies continue investigations into the recent killings, with residents urged to provide credible information to aid in the apprehension of those responsible.
