The Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has announced sweeping security measures in response to the killing of Alhaji Abdul-Malik Azenzge, Chief of Kusaase, who was fatally shot in Asewase on Tuesday, July 22.

In a statement released Friday, REGSEC said the measures, which follow an emergency meeting held on July 24, are aimed at preserving peace and ensuring justice for the slain traditional leader.

The Regional Coordinating Council extended its condolences to the bereaved family and condemned the act as heinous.

Effective immediately, REGSEC has banned motorbike operations after 7 p.m. until further notice. It also outlawed the use of unlicensed motorbikes and bikes without lights.

Riders are prohibited from wearing smocks, which the council says could be used to conceal weapons.

The council also suspended the ongoing inter-tribal football competition in the region.

“There will be increased security presence in hotspot areas, involving both the Police and Military, to ensure peace and protect lives and property,” the statement said.

Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, who signed the statement, assured the public of the government’s commitment to law and order.

He urged citizens to cooperate with ongoing investigations and report any credible information to security services.

“The doors of the Security Services remain open to receive credible information that can assist in identifying and apprehending those responsible,” Dr. Amoakohene said.

REGSEC reaffirmed its dedication to public safety and law enforcement, pledging to bring the perpetrators of the killing to justice.
